Ron Bailey Comes Within a Whisper of Perfect Score in Aug. 15 400-Yard Rifle Match

The day started out raining, but when we started shooting, conditions were about as good as you could get. No wind and good temperatures. A total of 45 targets were shot.

Temperatures were great, winds were mild to non-existent and there was a great turn-out at our July 11 400-yard rife match.  A total of 50 targets were shot.  Winners were:

July 10, 2010 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on July 10th, 2010

The May minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and a second by Bob McClure. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and a second by Bob McClure.

Old Business
The club has offically joined the Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited organization.

Marty Hrin reported to the members that there will be a PWHU pig roast on August 22 at a cost of $20.00. Sponsor packages are also available for $250.00.

Greg Yutzey has submitted the application and all of the information for the 501c7.

George McCoy will get a sample will for Randy Mitchell to use as a model for the new wills for the members. Randy Mitchell will prepare blank wills for the members to complete.

Jeremy has contacted Iberdrola and advised them that we will not be signing the Good Neighbor lease.

New Business
Rimfire had 15 shooters, 400yard had 40 targets and the IBS matches had 9 shooters.

Tom Noble reported that there will be a Steak Feed and Trap Shoot on 7/24/10. The cost is $25.00 for the match and steak dinner and there will be a reduced rate for youth shooters of $20.00.

A discussion was held concerning the condition of the club house and what steps should be taken in updating and repairing the building. Randy Mitchell will contact Pat McNaul and get his opinion on repairs because he has done previous repairs to the building.

Joel Dutra made a motion to send a registered letter to a past club member who was observed using the club facilities after he was removed as a member. Jeremy Smith volunteered to write a letter and notify him he is not to use the club facilities.

It was noted that the key for the pop machine is missing, Jim Johnson made a motion to have Pepsi change the lock on the pop machine and the motion passed on a Tom Hamilton second.

Members are reminded not to shoot at distances less than 400 yards on the 400 yard range for safety reasons.

Charles Bungo made a motion to change the by-laws to make the Anderson Creek property alcohol free at all times. Jim Johnson seconded the motion and the motion passed. The motion will require 2 more readings and then a final vote for inclusion in the by-laws.

As a courtesy, members who enter the club when the club has been reserved must ask the party reserving the club if their use of the club will interfere with the reservation.

Charles Leroy was accepted as a new member.

Tom Hamilton made a motion to adjourn and Eric McCoy seconded the motion.

June 12, 2010 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by President Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on June 12th, 2010

The May minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Dave McNeel and a second by Andy Shaffer. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Marty Hrin and a second by Andy Shaffer.

Old Business
A discussion was held concerning reviewing the wills and preparing new wills for members who have not prepared a will for their membership. Randy Mitchell will prepare blank wills for the members to complete.

Marty Hrin and Jeremy smith volunteered to help at the recent Youth Field Days at Camp Mountain Run. They reported 79 kids participated in various events.

Tom Hamilton made a motion for Anderson Creek to join the Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited at a cost of $10.00 per year. The motion passed on a Marty Hrin second.

Tom Noble reported that the Trap Shoot had 26 shooters and despite rain showers and the loss of electric they had a successful day.

Brian Allen reported 15 shooters for the IBS match. There was no rimfire report. Walt reported that the 400 yard match had 27 targets recorded.

The Board of directors met to discuss the Iberdrola Wind Turbine Proposal. They recommended that we do not sign the Good Neighbor Contract. Walt Kuzemchock made a motion that we abide by the Board’s decision and not sign the contract. The motion passed on a Jim Johnston second.

Randy Mitchell made a motion that we approve the funding and pursue the necessary steps to become a 501c7 non-taxable organization. The motion passed on a Jim Johnston second. Greg Yutzey has prepared the paperwork and the process will be started as soon as possible. Greg Yutzey has already applied for an EIN number for the checking account.

Andy Shaffer reported the fields have been planted with turnip, sorghum, oats, clover, buckwheat and sunflowers. The starter for the tractor required repair and the fuel line was also removed and a clog was cleared. Andy also reported the discs have a broken arm and will require welding. Any members with access to a welder are encouraged to contact Andy.

Scott wink was presented as a new member candidate and was approved for membership on a Tom Hamilton motion and a Dave Francisco second. We are 3 members short of having a full 50 member roster.

The combination for the locks will be changed at the end of June. Members in good standing should contact another member or officers for the new combination.

June 13 400-Yard Rifle Match Results

First it rained, then the wind would blow and get hot, then it would rain some more. The heavy downpour came as we finished the last relay. There were 40 targets shot with a lot of new faces. Competitors came from all over PA, and one from New York.

More Guns Equal Less Crime, According to FBI Statistics

From the President, Jeremy Smith:

A recent e-mail from the NRA has two significant articles for our club.

First is an FBI report stating there was a rather large decrease in violent crime between 2008 and 2009. This was the same time period when gun sales were soaring. Go figure; it doesn't take a genius to guess why that happened.

The other is the PA House Judiciary Committee successfully passed HB40, Castle Doctrine legislation which will now head to the House floor for consideration. This bill not only makes it legal for someone to use deadly force to protect themselves, their home and property, it also makes it legal to use deadly force to protect themselves and others anywhere outside the home they are legal to be. This is a very similar law to the one passed in Florida a couple years ago.

Currently in the state of PA, an individuals' first obligation, when faced with a violent situation, is to flee the area (even your own home). If you get a chance, please put a little of this information on our blog.

From the NRA E-Mail :
The FBI released crime statistics that should cause the applauding anti-gunners to sit on their hands. The statistics indicate that between 2008 and 2009, as gun sales soared, the number of murders in our country decreased 7.2 percent. That amounts to about an 8.2 percent decrease in the per capita murder rate, after the increase in our nation's legal and illegal population is taken into account. And it translates into about a 10.5 percent decrease in the murder rate between 2004, when the ban expired, and the end of 2009. And finally, it means that in 2009 our nation's murder rate fell to a 45-year low.

PENNSYLVANIA: Castle Doctrine Passes out of Judiciary Committee On Tuesday, May 25, the House Judiciary Committee successfully passed HB40, Castle Doctrine legislation which will now head to the House floor for consideration. The committee also defeated three anti-gun bills (HB1043, HB1044 and HB1045). House Bill 40, would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their homes and any places outside of their home where they have a legal right to be. It would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker's family when force is used.

Hillary Clinton And The UN Arms Trade Treaty Rumor

We continue to receive numerous inquiries regarding UN international treaties, and their impact on our Second Amendment rights. The latest rumor making its way around the Internet claims that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton actually signed a UN small arms treaty.

Contrary to this widely circulated e-mail, Hillary Clinton has not signed any small arms treaty. She could not have done so, in fact, because no such treaty has yet been negotiated.

As we noted in an update from last November, the UN Arms Trade Treaty will be drafted between now and 2012, and even if signed, would not take effect in the U.S. until it was ratified by the Senate.

Please rest assured that, as we said in November, NRA will be actively involved in this process and will oppose any treaty that would attempt to impose limits on our Second Amendment rights. In the meantime, we urge gun owners to follow this issue in NRA's magazines and NRA-ILA's Grassroots Alerts. We also urge gun owners not to circulate misinformation on this issue.

May 8, 2010 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on May 8th, 2010. The April minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Bob McClure and a second by Don O’Dell. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Walt Kuzemchock and a second by Brian Allen.

Old Business
The 308 match had 13 shooters and was won by Joel Dutra, with Breck Neeper in second place and Tom Hamilton in third place.

Craig Poff of Iberdrola responded to Jeremy Smith and has added the “Good Neighbor” wording to the wind turbine contract and will include our survey of the property as a definition for the boundary lines. The board will meet on Sunday May 23rd at 11:00 to review the contract and present it for a vote to the members at the June meeting.

George McCoy has retrieved all of the wills from the safe deposit box and after a review by the officers, they will make recommendations for providing updated wills to the members.

Tom Noble reminded members that there will be a Steak Feed and Trap Shoot on June 6th at a cost of $25.00. Members should contact Tom Noble by June 1st at 590-9431 for reservations.

The combination for the lock on the gate will be changed after the June meeting.

New Business
On a Nick Prave motion and a Jim Johnston second a $300.00 donation will be made to help support the blind girl who works at Gant Daily who places our match results on their web site.

Randy Mitchell reported he has repaired the trap thrower which had a broken height adjustment control. A replacement part was available for $30.00 but he made the part with the help of Joe Mitchell.

Bud Thomas warned the members that a gas company requested permission to use dangerous frack water in a shallow gas well on Bilgers Rocks property. There request was denied.

Two new members were presented for admission to the club, Mike Straub and Mike Solida. They were approved for admission on a motion by Tom Hamilton and a second by Jim Johnston.

Members are reminded that there will be a work party on May 22nd starting at 8:00.

Carl Huss won the $15.00 fifty-fifty drawing.

On a very windy, chilly day, Anderson Creek Sportsmen's Club members swept the top three places in the 400-yard, 308 caliber match held Sunday, April 11, at the club range. Sixteen shooters participated in the match.

Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on April 10th, 2010

The March minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Bob McClure and a second by Don O’Dell. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Shannon McKee and a second by Tom Noble.

Old Business
Jeremy Smith and Breck Neeper have planted 40-50 chestnut trees. It was decided that at present we will continue to deal with Coca Cola for the pop machine. Marty Hrin requested volunteer help for the Youth Field Days at Camp Mountain Run on June 5th. Craig Poff of Iberdrola responded to Jeremy Smith that he has no problem adding the “good Neighbor” wording to the wind turbine contract. After a discussion it was decided that we would review the revised contract and verify the correct boundary lines are noted before voting on the contract.

New Business
Andy Shaffer made a request for $200.00 for farming supplies for the new year. Don O’Dell made a motion to approve $200.00 for farm supplies Bob McClure seconded the motion and the motion passed. Randy Mitchell made a request to purchase a vinyl outdoor sign for club functions. Joel Dutra made a motion to buy a vinyl outdoor sign that reads “Anderson Creek Sportsmen” to be used for shows and during shoots. The motion passed on a Walt Kuzemchock second. Nick Prave made a motion to make Bob McClure a life member. The motion passed on a James Johnston second. After a discussion it was decided that the web-blog should keep a rolling 12- month history, any older information can be deleted. Randy will contact Dennis to see if this can be instituted. George McCoy reported that we have lost 8 members for the current year. Three new member candidates were present and were voted in as new members. Members who are sponsoring a candidate are reminded that they must be present to be voted in to the club. A discussion was held concerning the wills, which should be in place for each member in good standing. George McCoy said he would bring in the contents of the safe deposit box for review. Randy Mitchell requested clarification of the by-laws concerning new member fees and points. New members must pay a $40.00 initiation fee, $30.00 annual dues and must accumulate 25 points in a calendar year, and each point is worth $10.00. Unearned points must be paid by the member before the April meeting or face expulsion. Points can be accumulated by attending meetings, shooting in events or working at the club (1 point per hour).

The board adjourned to pick a man of the year. This year’s man of the year will be shared by George McCoy and Jeremy Smith.

Andy Shaffer won the $16.00 fifty-fifty drawing.

Don O’Dell made a motion to adjourn with a Tom Noble second.

Meeting Notes

The meeting was called to order by President, Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. The minutes of the February meeting were read by substitute Secretary, Joel Dutra. One correction to the previously reported 22 match schedule was made. The August match will be the 2nd Sunday and the September match will be the 1st Sunday of the month. Rodger Thomas moved to accept the corrected minutes and the motion passed.

George McCoy gave the treasurer's report and bills to be paid. On a motion by Bill Swatsworth both items were approved.

President Smith reported 2010 match schedules are now available and on the web-blog.

Tom Hamilton reported that once again someone has used the toilet with the water shut off and that member should clean the toilet. A suggestion was made that next year a lock should be put on the door when water is turned off.

Jeremy reported that a reply to his e-mail to Iberdrola did not include the requested language for protection of our shooting activities. Discussion showed a conscientious, that for us to be interested, that clause was necessary. Jeremy will recontact Mr. Poff to request additional clarification. He also presented an aerial map that showed the proposed windmill location. A note was made that the line shown on the Bachelier property did not appear accurate to our last survey.

New Business
A question as to whether the raffle winners were published in the newspaper could not be answered and will be referred to Randy.

A question about the ability we have to delete old minutes and information from our e-blog was asked with no additional information.

Some research was done on a Pepsi machine and offer. Product appears to be cheaper but minimum quantities are larger and we need to research whether Pepsi or Coke is firearms friendly.

From our contact at the Grice Sale, Jeremy received a request from the Girl Scouts for possible use of the facilities. Jeremy will respond and see if common dates are available.

Bob McClure opened a discussion on repairs to the outhouse. It will be added to the work party list.

Brian reported on the February Bench Rest Match. 12 shooters competed; Jamie Eazor won the heavy division and Brian Placed 1st in the sporter.

A reminder that dues and points must be paid by the next meeting and new prospective members should be present.

The 50/50 of $11.00 was won by Harp McNeel. A motion by Rodger Thomas to adjourn and seconded by Breck Neeper, past.
