Camp welcomes gray fox visitors

These fox, there were actually three of them, came to visit me at camp on a recent Friday afternnoon at about 5 o'clock.

They seem to like the stale hot dog buns I threw out.  We have decided to let this family of gray fox take up residence, as we have not had a mouse or snake at camp for almost 2 years.

Meeting Minutes
Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th, 2012
The October minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and were approved on a motion by Andy Shaffer and a second by Roger Thomas. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and a second by Mike Solida.
President Thomas Hamilton brought to the attention of the members the deaths of Jeremy Smith’s father and Bob Huston’s wife. They have our deepest sympathy.
Match Reports – Walt Kuzemchock reported the high-power match had 37 targets, and Brian Allen reported the IBS match had 6 shooters. All match directors are to meet in January and finalize match schedules for the new year. Upon the recommendation of Tom Hamilton, Roger Thomas made a motion to join the ARA in order to sanction our 22 matches. The motion passed on a Charles Bungo second.
Old Business
The 50 yard range was completed by the last work party. Joel Harris brought his backhoe and made the job a lot easier. Work continues on the new archery range. There is a sign up sheet for the Grice sale at the end of January. Help is needed to man our booth. The trap house needs cleaned out and the thrower needs stored for the winter. Randy Mitchell reported that the front of the building has been resided and repaired. The new door and combination lock have been installed by members Mike Straub and Joe Mitchell. They plan to replace the other windows and siding next year.
New Business
We continue to have a problem with damage to the various ranges at the club. Club security was discussed and several concerns were voiced. Jeremy Smith suggested we look into buying security cameras. Sign in sheets were also discussed. We will continue to investigate our options. Joel Dutra made a motion to contact prospective new members 2 weeks prior to the meeting to make sure they are present for induction and that the points will be posted by the February meeting. The motion passed on an Ed Spencer second.
Cleaning up the inside of the building was discussed. Randy Mitchell will contact different companies to get quotes on a dumpster. Andy Shaffer has set traps for coyote around the property. Please do not bring your dogs to the property and possibly get caught by the traps. Randy Mitchell will get 10 gallons of heating oil for the furnace. Carl Huss brought a load of wood for the gun room heater.

Work party completes 50-yard backstop & archery range; camp winterized

The 50-yard backstop is done and ready. We had a special treat at the work party today.  Member Joel Harris showed up with his backhoe and made short work of moving railroad ties, digging holes and filling in the backstop with sand. He also took several loads of lime down to the pond and put them in.

I want to thank Joel, Andy Shaffer, Andy Chimenti, and Carl Huss for coming out in the cold to get this much-needed project done.

We set a tie on the ground in front of the backstop so people can set cans and clay birds there to shoot, as long as they pick them up when they are done. There is to be absolutely NOTHING put on top of the ties for targets.

We also need to thank Carl for bringing us another truckload of the dried hard wood for the shooting room wood burner.

Brian and Scott Brubaker got the water turned off and the camp winterized.

They also got the archery range done except for hanging the target in the shooting room.

Thanks fellows!

- Tom Hamilton
