November, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on November 14th, 2009

The October minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Bob McClure and a second by Joel Dutra. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Shannon McKee and a second by Breck Neeper.

Old Business
The upcoming gun raffle was discussed and has been scheduled for February after the spring sale at Grice’s. Walt Kuzemchock has organized a members-only drawing, tickets are available to members only and are $15.00 each. The prize is a Browning T-Bolt Varmint in 22 long rifle. Craig Poff of Iberdrola Resources has reported that we are not in consideration for a windmill. A letter from Atwell-Hicks has been received reporting that our land is to be surveyed for the upcoming windmill project. The fields have been limed and the pond has also received lime. The tire chains have been received and will be installed this week. Bryan Brubaker is to be contacted to service the furnace and Randy Mitchell will arrange for 10 gallons of fuel for the furnace.

New Business
Jim Johnston reported that Colleen Shannon with the Land Management Division of the Pennsylvania Game Commission is available to give us advice on managing are grounds and advice on planting, etc. We will try to schedule for her to speak at one of our meetings early in the year. Tom Noble, Ray Noble and Jeremy Smith were guides for the recent PA Wilds hunt in the Quehanna Wild area. They assisted hunters from the New York, Texas and various other states. On a motion by Tom Hamilton and a second by Jim Johnston, a motion was approved to send a donation of $100.00 to Jack Igou who recently lost his house due to a house fire. Jack has participated in many of our shooting competitions. A call was made for nominations of officers for the upcoming year, please write any nominations you may have on the club blackboard.

Match Reports
Walt reported that a 10-year-old girl placed third in the recent 400 yard match. Tom Hamilton was presented a plaque for high score in the deer rifle matches.

The $12 50/50 was won by Dave Coudriet

Roger Thomas made a motion to adjourn with a Tom Hamilton second.

Two Important Items for Members

1. The fields and the pond have been limed. We had 2 tons per acre put on and enough to keep the pond water in great shape.

2. I received a call that one of our members was driving his truck through the middle of one of the fields that we plant. Members are reminded that there are designated areas to drive around the club. We have spent a lot of time and money planting feed for the wildlife and we DO NOT want anyone driving through the fields and ruining them!

October, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on October 10th, 2009

The September minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Roger Thomas and a second by Jim Johnston. The treasurer’s report was presented by Jeremy Smith and approved on a motion by Andy Shaffer and a second by Bud Thomas.

Old Business
A motion by Dave McNeel and a second by Jerry Witherow was approved to purchase 20 tons of lime for the fields at a cost of $26 per load and $24 per ton for a total of $532. A motion by Charlie Bungo and a second by Andy Shaffer was approved to buy tractor chains and chain tensioners for the tractor for approximately $285. Walt Kuzemchock and Greg Yutzey are working on our application for becoming a tax exempt organization.

New Business
Randy Mitchell has revised the food committee list and all members are encouraged to check to see when they are required to supply food for the meetings. Members are reminded that the club cannot be reserved after October 1st of the year. The club is to remain open for all members to sight in and use the grounds for hunting.

Jeremy Smith made a presentation on his Iberdrola Wind Turbine visit to Schuykill County Pa. and their request for us to sign a 5-year $5,000 good neighbor lease. A motion by Charles Bungo with a second by Walt Kuzemchock was approved to have discussions concerning the lease proposal at the November and December meetings and have a vote on the proposal at the January meeting.

A discussion was held concerning preparing the club house for the winter, antifreeze for the bathroom and draining the pump. Bryan Brubaker will service the furnace. Randy Mitchell will arrange for fuel for the furnace.

The water quality report from Mahaffey Labs was reviewed with very good results. Arrangements were made for a presentation table at the Grice Gun Shop Sale on January 30th and 31st in order to better advertise our matches for 2010. Davey Tree Company sent a letter explaining the trimming of the power lines on our property.

A motion by Charles Bungo with a second by Dave McNeel was approved to have a gun raffle, with the drawing to be held in February. Tom Hamilton and Dave Francisco will make the arrangements for the tickets and the prizes. A motion by Tom Hamilton with a second by Charles Bungo was approved to renew the small games of chance license. A motion by Tom Hamilton with a second by Bob Huston was approved to have a members only drawing.

Match Reports
Jim Johnston reported the rimfire match was down to 23 targets. Dave Coudriet, Harp McNeel and Dave McNeel were winners. Walt reported 49 targets were shot for the deer rifle match with Joel Dutra, Bob Kingsbury and Harp McNeel as winners. The next deer rifle match is scheduled for October 11th.

Walt Kuzemchock and Tom Hamilton are planning an April deer rifle match for 308 caliber guns all shooting the same 168 grain bullet supplied by the club. The chukar hunt had a very light turnout of only 14 hunters. Jeremy Smith raised and supplied the birds for the hunt. There was no IBS match report. The match results are posted on the web site.

The $10 50/50 was won by Roger Thomas.

Tom Hamilton made a motion to adjourn with a Dave Francisco second.

9-27-09

The last 22 Rimfire Shoot for 2009 was held on 9-27-09. The weather was cold, wet, and even colder. Despite the weather we had a good day with food, hot coffee, and good friends. The competition was very close as usual with the shooters we have attending our shoots.

Sorry that this report is so late, My fault--been busy!!!

Two items of business to share with you:

First: Keep watching this site for our 2009 class champions. The scores have not been totaled yet but they will be posted here sometime before years end.

Second: Also keep watching after the end of the year for the 2010 match schedule. It will be posted on this site.

Finally, Thanks to everyone that attended our events in 2009. It is something that I look forward to each time. What a great bunch of guys and even greater competitors.

Everybody have a good off season, hunting, holidays and New Year.

What a Moose!

This picture was taken at Elliott Lake, near Sault Ste. Marie, Canada .

By the length of his beard and the grey legs, he must be over 10 years old. He looks to be well over 8 feet at the top of the shoulder hump, and with his head up the height to the top of his antler must be about 12 feet.

This guy is king of the forest, no bear or pack of wolves would dare
come after him when he has this rack......Considering that a dirt road can fit 1 1/2 cars across ... this fellow is HUGE ...THIS IS ONE BIG BOY!

Yes, it is a regular size dirt road.

September, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on September 12th, 2009

The August minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and a second by Dave McNeel. The treasurer’s report was presented by Tom Hamilton and approved on a motion by Andy Shaffer and a second by Joel Dutra.

Old Business
Jeremy Smith and Tom Hamilton will visit a wind farm in Schuylkill County, PA. In order to better evaluate the proposal by Iberdrola Resources to place a wind turbine on or near our property.

There are plenty of fish in the pond and members are welcome to bring bread and feed the fish. The water test by Mahaffey Labs reported the water quality is very good.

New Business
Joel Dutra volunteered to attend the Sportsmen’s Show in Johnsonburg on October 18th.

A discussion was held concerning adding lime to the pond if the PH drops below 7.
Jeremy Smith made a motion to lime all of the fields which was seconded by Andy Shaffer.

There will be a Youth Pheasant Hunt at the All Seasons shooting range in Luthersburg, and volunteers are needed and may contact Marty Hrin for more information.

Match Reports
Jim Johnston reported the rimfire match was heavily attended and the next shoot will be September 27th.

Bryan Allen reported 8 shooters for the IBS match with the next shoot on September 20th.

Walt reported 46 targets were shot for the 400 yard match, and the next match will be September 19th, which is a 200 yard match. The match results are posted on the web site.

Tom Noble reported that the trap shoot had only 11 shooters, and that the Chukar Hunt will be held September 20th at a cost of $40.00 per shooter and steak and $12.00 for steak only.

The Fishing Trip to Lake Raystown was won by Wes Schutt of Ontario, Canada.

The 50/50 was won by Roy Mahlon.

Andy Shaffer made a motion to adjourn with a Steve McClure second.

Wind Tower Being Considered Near Club Property

Note to Members from Tom Hamilton:

President Jeremy, Dave Francisco and I went below Hazelton to a wind farm in Schuylkill County, PA in order to better evaluate the proposal by Iberdrola Resources to place a wind turbine on or near our property. From what the fellow told us, they are not going to put one on our property. it will be located 100 yards to the right of the 400 yard back stop, on the Bachalier property.

They still want us to sign on. I think it is so they can use our road for access. They will pay us $1, 000 a year for 5 years and fix up and maintain our road. Nothing has been signed or agreed on yet. The picture is of one of the towers, 200 feet tall with a full size Jeep parked right beside it. The blades are 110 feet long each. There is not a great deal of noise when they are turning, just a whooshing sound.

Bird Hunters Enjoy Great Time at Chukar Hunt

Although attendance was down a bit from previous years, we released a total of 90 birds and a great time was had by all at the Sept. 20 chukar hunt at Anderson Creek Sportsmen's Club.

The photo is of a German Shorthaired Pointer owned by Eric and Robin McCoy. Her name is Abby and this was her first hunt. By the end of the day she had made great strides and was pointing beautifully.

Tuesday Is Deadline To Register for Chukar Hunt

Tuesday, Sept. 15, is the deadline to sign up for the Anderson Creek Sportsmen chukar hunt on Sunday, September 20.

The price is $40 per person for the hunt and a steak dinner. If you wish to hunt, you must contact Tom Noble (814-590-9044) by the end of the day Tuesday. Tom needs an accurate count to order the food Wednesday morning.

The club expects to have the birds out and the first two squads ready to hunt by 10 a.m.

Come on out and join the hunt, good food and the comaraderie.

President Smith Warns of Dangerous Gun Control Bill - Members Advised To Take Notice and Action

This information was sent to me by a customer who is a hunting videographer in California. The actual text of the bill can be seen at http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h45/text

It was presented by Representative Bobby Rush, who is a democrat from Illinois. I've read most of this bill and it is for real. It calls for federal licensing of all gun owners including photo and finger print, no transfer of firearms between private parties (not even long guns), reporting of ALL firearm transfers (including manufacturer, model and serial number) to the federal government, required secure storage (locked up) of any loaded or unloaded firearms with ammo in a building where there may be any person under 18 years of age, and fines and imprisonment for anyone not complying with the law.

One interesting point I read near the end of the bill is a section that essentially reads this bill will not stop States from enacting firearm regulation laws at the State level so long as they do not create "inconsistency" with this law. This bill applies to all firearms including "qualifying firearms". As defined in the bill a "qualifying firearm" is any handgun and any long gun that is semi-automatic and accepts a detachable magazine.

Please let your U.S. Senators and Members of Congress know of your strong opposition to this proposed legislation.

Do Not Place Targets on or Around 400-Yard Target Frames

Members are reminded to not put any targets on, around, in front of, behind, under or over the 400 yard target frames.

Someone recently put several clay pigeons behind the frames and we now have new bullet holes in the frames.

There is a practice target holder and ample room to set birds on the bank to the right of the match target frames. Use that area only.

Please Follow Rules for Reserving Club Facilities

At the August 8 meeting, Bud McCall advised he had been told that a member had reserved the camp, and that others had come and used the camp without checking with the member.

All members are to check the calendar for reservations. If the area they want to use is not being used and is safe, they must ask the member with reservations if they may use the area in question.

Please observe common courtesy in these matters. President Jeremy Smith will check bylaws for clarification to the reservation rules.

Minutes/Notes - August 8, 2009

Meeting was called to order by President Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m.

The July minutes were read by acting secretary Joel Dutra and approved on a motion by Bob McClure and seconded by Breck Neeper.

George McCoy read the Treasurers Report which shows a balance of $8,512.98 and presented bills to be paid of $726.47. Both items were approved on a motion by Charles Bungo, seconded by Breck Neeper

OLD BUSINESS:
Jeremy advised the list of chores is posted and members completing any should cross them off when done.

Bud McCall reported that he and Bob McClure had delivered the lawn tractor to Don Bressler. The new deck fit and was installed and working. Mr. Bressler said the tractor was well worth repairing. Roy Malhon reported the deck has blown a belt, and he and Tom Hamilton were repairing it.

MATCH REPORTS
Jim Johnson reported that match attendance at the rimfire match was up, and he had the results if anyone had questions.

Walt reported that 56 targets were shot at last month’s 400-yard deer match. Member Dave Coudriet won the Hunter rifle match.

Brian Allen reported that 8 shooters attended the 100-yard bench rest match and results are available.

Tom Noble had 14 to 15 shooters for the trap and steak feed. Income was $371.00 before expenses. Tom needs someone to run this month’s match as his wife is having surgery. Jeremy will run the match. Tom is taking the reservations. Please call early to reserve steaks.

J.J. reported that just prior to last month’s match, he found the trap broken and that emergency repairs had to be made. Since then, he had the breakage permanently repaired and will trade the expense involved for the old wind flags. Members are to report any breakage or damage found so repairs can be made before equipment is needed.

J.J. also reported he had spoken to Billy Russell on excavating the pistol range. Je has given Billy’s phone number to Jim Peters and arrangements are being made.

NEW BUSINESS:
Jeremy asked for information on the missing table from the meeting room and asked any member to return it ASAP.

Bud McCall advised that the food committee sheet needed revised for November, January and June. The secretary is to check for (new) members and make additions and corrections.

Marty Hrin advised of the mentored youth pheasant hunt. Youth ages 12 to 16 are welcome and must attend a safety seminar at All Seasons on October 3, 2009. The hunt will be October 10. For more information contact Marty, Laura Johnson 371-4856 or Leo Klebacha 371-8612.

Bob McClure asked about chains for the tractor for plowing. Members may check for double ring tractor chains of the appropriate size, but not to use bear claw style chains because of possible damage to the differential. We will get prices, and there will be more discussion at next meeting on who will plow or getting someone to plow for meetings.

President Smith presented a lease proposal for possible placement of a windmill on the camp property and a lengthy discussion ensued. The lease proposed for Iberdrola Renewables would be for a 5-year option at $1,000.00 per year to retain a property lease for a windmill site between the 22 range and the camp or at the end of the 400-yard range. If the company would decide to install the mill, the club would receive 2% of the production that averages $8,000.00 to $11,000.00 per year.

Concerns voiced were for noise, change to the natural look of the land and liability.

Positives are profit for future growth of the organization, adding to an ecological production source for electric, and possible road and sight improvements. A committee of Jeremy, Randy, Dave and Tom will continue discussion to clarify points of concern and possibly visit sites where rifle ranges and windmills co-exist. The company says they have enough leases and the project will happen. Tthey are now just trying to make sure they have access to the best locations. If the club does not sign, the company may not build a mill within 500 ft. of the property line. If the club does sign, the company may build within 200 ft of the line and 300 ft of the camp building.

Discussion was tabled to future meetings with more information.

Roy Mahlon asked about ringing trees. Jeremy will contact Carl Huss to check on the project.

Tom Hamilton reported the pond is in good shape and has many fish.

The 50-50 was won by Tome Hamilton @ $13.00.

A motion to adjourn was made by Walk Kuzemchock and seconded by Tom Noble at 9:05 p.m.

Saturday, August 15, was a great day for shooting, and eight shooters turned out for the annual Anderson Creek Sportsmen Trophy Shoot at the club range.

Ron Bailey won top honors in the Varmint for Score Class and Corey Ross scored highest in the Factory Class. Results for the top three place winners in the two divisions:

The day started out wet, and ended up hot and windy, with the scores extremely close.

Forty-six targets were shot, and we had our first female competitor. Nancy Armstrong, wife of club member John Armstrong, had a very good showing. John's son, Scott, was home on leave from the Air Force and also shot in the match, placing in the Unlimited Class. The results:
