Matt Hamilton bags 2nd trophy buck in 2 years

Lt. Matt Hamilton harvested this buck on Thanksgiving day while archery hunting in Kansas. This is his 2nd trophy buck in 2 years. The buck was a 10 point, 20" spread and 16" high.

Matt has just received an appointment to the next Captains Career Course, after a recommendation from his commanding officer. He and his family will be moving to Fort Leonard Wood, MO in April and will begin school the first week in May. After completion of this course, October 2011, he will be promoted to the rank of Captain and will have a Maters Degree in management.

This will put him in line for a Battalion Commanders spot, one of the most sought after positions in the Army.

This 4X6 elk was bedded down in the front yard of my camp, The Hamster Cage, a few days before Christmas. I had my grandson, 2-year-old Benjamin, with me and he got all excited seeing one of Santa's reindeer resting up before the big day.

Meeting Minutes

 January 8, 2011

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:40 p.m. on January 8th, 2011

The December minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and Don O’Dell . The treasurer’s report was presented by the George McCoy and approved on a motion by Andy Shaffer and Shannon McKee.

Old Business
Andy Shaffer reported that the tractor has been repaired and the cost will be $500. The cab and the loader had to be removed to get to the brakes. Several seals were replaced and 2 fuel leaks were repaired. Randy Mitchell and Andy Shaffer installed the chains and delivered the tractor back to the club.

The board met and formulated a new alcohol policy for the club. No alcohol will be allowed on the ranges at any time, no alcohol is permitted at the club during any matches and the hosting member will be responsible for the conduct of any invited guests at the club. Charles Bungo made a motion to adopt the new rules as an addition to the by-laws. After a discussion it was decided that the new policy will have to be presented in written format as a by-law addition.

Charles Bungo agreed to draft the addition and present the formal version at the February meeting. Members are reminded that the $30.00 dues are now being collected, tickets are available for the March drawing and members are encouraged to contact George McCoy for any additional money owed for points.

New Business
Marty Hrin made a motion to renew our membership in Pennsylvania Wildlife Habitat Unlimited and the motion passed on a Roger Thomas second. Members are reminded to contact Jeremy Smith to volunteer to man the table at the Grice Gun Shop show on January 29th and 30th.

A discussion was held concerning purchasing a wood stove versus a propane stove, it was decided we will watch for a used wood stove for next year and continue to use the current stove for now. Bryan Brubaker stated that we will have to eventually replace the oil furnace which is just about worn out. Don O’Dell stated that John Bloom has some porta-potties for sale that could be used at the range. He thought the price was $250 but will check on the price and availability.

Roger Thomas made a motion to adjourn and Don O’Dell seconded the motion.

Meeting Minutes

The November minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and Breck Neeper. The treasurer’s report was presented by the George McCoy and approved on a motion by Don O’Dell and Shannon McKee.

Old Business
Andy Shaffer reported that the tractor is at Knisely’s for repair. The water at the club has been drained for the winter. Randy reported the new assessment includes the 22 range pavilion, the golf cart shed, the picnic pavilion and the roof over the 400 yard range. The new 911 address sign was ordered by Randy from the GPB fire company. Greg Yutzey reported that we are not eligible for a 501c3 because too much of our income comes from non-members. We exceed the 30% non-member income rule. We will have to file federal taxes for the coming years. Bryan Brubaker won the Remington 700 in 6mm in the members only drawing.

New Business
Bill and Jane Russel approached the members representing the Open Range 4H club and requested to use the range for a 4H shooting program. After a discussion the general consensus was to help the 4H club with the use of our ranges and several members volunteered to help. The 4H club will show proof of insurance and it may be necessary to appoint an honorary membership to the leader of the club to operate within the by-laws for club use.

Randy will contact Frank Delarme for corn for the corn feeder after hunting season.

After a presentation by Joel Dutra, a motion by Tom Hamilton to donate $100.00 to the DuBois Rifle and Pistol Club was approved.

Bob McClure made a motion to maintain the current officers for next year by unanimous declaration, the motion passed on a Joel Dutra second.

The wood stove in the gun room has burned out and will need to be repaired. It was suggested we either patch it or replace it with a barrel stove kit.

Steve Strouse won the $15.00 50/50 drawing.

Bob McClure made a motion to adjourn and Walt Kuzemchock seconded the motion.

Steve Strouse, Jim Baum, Ron Bailey score in final IBS match of the year

Steve Strouse took home the win with a 250-7x in the 200-yard final Anderson Creek IBS rifle match of the year.  The match was held on November 18.  All shooters competed in the Varmint for Score class.

Second was Jim Baum with a 247-3x, and third was Ron Bailey with a 240-2x.

There were no shooters in the Factory Class.

Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on November 13th, 2010

The August minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra nd Breck Neeper. The treasurer’s report was presented by the Jeremy Smith and approved on a motion by Dave McNeel and Andy Shaffer.

Old Business
Andy Shaffer reported that the tractor brakes need repaired. He has an estimate of $300.00 for standard repair and $500.00 if the tractor must be disassembled. Jim Johnston made a motion to have the brakes repaired and the motion passed on a Shannon McKee second.

New Business
The PRWA Pheasant hunt was recently held in St. Mary’s and Marty Hrin and Jeremy Smith acted as guides. Tickets were distributed for our annual gun drawing by Joel Dutra. Members are encouraged to sell tickets and can contact Joel Dutra, George McCoy or Randy Mitchell if they need tickets to sell for the drawing, which will be held at the March meeting.

Andy Shaffer has pulled his coyote traps from the club property. The board is to schedule a meeting to rewrite the alcohol policy for the club. Bob McClure reminded the members that the water for the club needs to be shut off and drained.

We have received an updated assessment for the changes to the canopy at the club. Randy Mitchell will look into the assessment at the court house. Charles Bungo made a motion to purchase a new 911 sign for the club from the GPB Fire company at a cost of $8.00.

The election of officers will be done at the December meeting. Members are urged to write the names of nominees on the chalkboard in the club. Walt has tickets for the members only drawing which is held at the December meeting. The tickets are $15.00 and are only available to members. The prize is a walnut and synthetic Remington 700 in 6mm.

Dave McNeel won the $11.00 50/50 drawing.

Bob McClure made a motion to adjourn and Walt Kuzemchock seconded the motion.

Ron Bailey Sr. nails perfect score in 400-yard bullseye match

The day started out perfect, no wind and mild teperatures, then we hung targets and the cold, wind and rain showed up.  Thirty-six targets were shot and scores were good.  Ron Bailey Sr. shot a perfect 50 out of 50 using a .30 BR.  Here are the full results:

On November 14,  there will be a 400-yard shoot with 3 classes. The matches are for any style gun with any scope and any ammo. The 3 classes will be split by guns in calibers .223, .308 and any centerfire rifle.

Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Jeremy Smith at 7:34 p.m.

Minutes of the September 11, 2010 meeting were presented by acting secretary Joel Dutra. A motion by Jeremy Smith seconded by George McCoy to accept, the minutes were approved.

The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy. A motion passed to accept the report and pay the bills.

Old Business:
Jeremy reported that the new trap is installed but that he suggests we wait to purchase the loading carousel in the spring because of the warranty terms. The proposal was accepted by consensus.

A raffle proposal was given by Joel, a 6-gun/money raffle with 2,000 tickets to be drawn at the March meeting. Tickets will be $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00. Additional cash prizes of $100.00 will be given for each 100 tickets sold after the 1st 1000, the 6th prize will be the only prize with no cash option. Prizes will be: 1st a Remington 70 or $499.00, 2nd Weatherby Vanguard or $350.00, 3rd Rugar L.C.P. or $250.00, 4th Leupold 4x12 or $200.00, 5th Smith & Wesson 22 Sport pistol or $150.00 and 6th Remington Model 5, 17 HMR (no cash option).

A motion to proceed with the raffle was made by Charles Bungo and seconded by Andy Shaffer, motion passed.

President Smith reported on a letter from the I.R.S. that informed us that our application for tax exemption would probably be rejected as submitted. Randy Mitchell and Greg Yutsey are doing additional research and will continue to report.

New Business:
Andy Shaffer advised he had put the lime in the pond. Also, Andy says the tractor brakes are very poor. The break system is a wet brake and he will check on prices to have it repaired.

A thank you card was received from Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church for the donation from the club in remembrance of John Morgan.

There was discussion on the updating of the internet site and Jeremy will talk to Randy and Dennis.

A motion was made by Breck Neeper and seconded by Shannon to approve a members-only raffle, passed, and Walt will handle it.  Tickets will be available at the November meeting.

Andy Shaffer will be setting coyote traps and advises members to watch their dogs if on camp property. He also asked to be able to remove the pear tree that interferes with the tractor shed. After discussion approval was given by consensus.

Match Reports:
Walt reported that the last match had light attendance,  probably because of the windy conditions, but hoped tomorrow's match would have more shooters.

The chucker hunt had 10 squads with an approximate profit of $400.

Scott Brubaker motion seconded by Jim Johnson to adjourn passed at 8:15.

The 50/50 was won by Joel Dutra and was donated back to the club.

September 11, 2010 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on September 11th, 2010

The August minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Bob McClure and a second by Andy Shaffer. The treasurer’s report was presented by the treasurer George McCoy and approved on a motion by Steve Strouse and a second by Bob McClure.

Old Business
Randy Mitchell presented a review of the condition of the clubhouse based upon a meeting he had with Pat McNaul on 9/9/10. Overall the building is in very good shape but a list of immediate and future repairs was presented. Andy Shaffer made a motion to purchase a new support post to replace a wooden one in the basement that was identified as an immediate concern. The motion passed. A motion was made to proceed with other repairs and Randy Mitchell will contact Joe Mitchell and Mike Straub (two members with construction experience) to make other immediate repairs.

Tom Noble contacted Unilec and organized the removal of the live electric line from the club grounds and pond. Volunteers are needed to move the poles off of the range. The purchase of a factory refurbished trap thrower just like ours was approved on a motion by Jeremy Smith. A new automatic carousel for the trap thrower was also approved for purchase after a motion by Nick Prave and a second by Roy Mahlon. After a third reading of the amendment to the by-laws to make the club alcohol free a vote was held and the amendment was defeated by a vote of 25 no’s and 1 abstention.

Match Reports
The last rimfire event of the year had 21 targets, and there were 10 shooters for the IBS match.

New Business
Charles Bungo made a motion to formulate a by-law to govern alcohol use and the resulting penalties for misuse by the board of directors. The consensus is that there should be ban on alcohol use during any shooting events and violation of this rule will result in immediate expulsion upon misuse by the club member or guests.

There will be a 400 yard IBS match on 9/12/10. On November 14th there will be a 400 yard shoot with 3 classes. The matches are for any style gun with any scope and any ammo. The 3 classes will be split by guns in calibers 223, 308 and any center fire rifle.

Greg Yutzey reported that the IRS paperwork for the 503C7 has been sent and they will contact us if they need any other paperwork. We have received an invitation from Matt Gabler to attend the Johnsonburg Sportsmen’s show on 9/25/10.

The annual Chukar Hunt will be next Sunday 9/19/10 and is $40.00 per person or $160.00 per squad of 4 shooters with a $12.00 reduction for any missing shooters from the 4-man squad. Bob McClure purchased supplies for the kitchen and members are advised to pack and seal the items after use. Tom Noble made a motion to advance Steve McClure $150.00 for food for the Chukar Hunt. Members are reminded that there are no reservations of the club after October 1st, the beginning of hunting season. Lime has been delivered and needs dumped into the pond.

We had six shooters for the 200-yard Sept. 15 IBS shoot.

In Varmint for Score, first was Larry Seger with a 249-4x, second was Bob Kingsbury with a 246-3x and third was Stue Smith with a 245-7x.

In Factory, first was Brian Allen with a 244-4x, and second was Rob Long with a (dnf).

The day started out cold and rainy, but by the time the match started we had perfect temperatures, no mirage and some wind. A total of 44 targets were shot at the 400-yard match on Sunday, Sept. 12.

Initially submitted to us by Club Member Tom Hamilton, who said it was in Karthaus Township near the boot camp.  (Believe Tom was pulling our leg on location.)

Others claim it was in the wilds of Minnestota.

Joe Cowan and Brian Allen Win 2010 Benchrest Trophy Shoot Matches

Joe Cowan took top honors in Varmint for Score and Brian Allen topped the Factory Class in the 2010 Anderson Creek Annual Trophy Shoot on Saturday, August 28. 

A total of nine shooters participated.
