Members reminded of fishing derby and work party

Members are reminded that our fishing derby is scheduled for June 15th and we still need prizes -- small fishing rods, tackle boxes, small fishing vests or anything else that would make good prizes for the derby.

There will be sign-up sheets for the derby at the May meeting. The sheets will be up until the June meeting.  We need hot dogs, small bags of chips, drinks, bait and volunteers.

There will be a work party on May 18th at 10 a.m to work on backstops and start getting the pond ready for the fishing derby.

I have an idea of adding to our website.  Would members be interesting in having a sidebar or another portion of the blog for a classified section?  Members could post on it.  Let me know.

The pond water was tested about a week and a half ago, and we should have the results by this Saturdays meeting.

More info on deer chronic wasting disease

From Pennlive.com (Harrisburg Patriot-News):

State agencies provided a bit more detail about three new Pennsylvania cases of deer with chronic wasting disease, but little in the way of the actions they will take in response to those cases, at a news conference Monday afternoon.

The three new confirmed cases of CWD — all in free-ranging deer — were detected in an adult buck in Frankstown Township, Blair County; an adult doe in Freedom Township, Blair County; and a year-and-a-half-old buck in South Woodbury Township, Bedford County, according to Brad Meyers, southcentral regional director of the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

The hunters who harvested those deer did not notice anything usual about them, he said, noting, "Our officers asked them if these deer appeared sick or were acting strangely, and there was no evidence of that."

CWD is an always fatal brain disease among white-tailed deer and other cervids, like elk and moose.

Although it does not recommend that anyone eat venison from a deer confirmed to be infected with CWD, the Centers for Disease Control says, there is no evidence that the disease can be spread to other types of animals or to humans.

Fatal disease detected in wild white-tailed deer in Pennsylvania
March 1, 2013 4:35 pm
By John Hayes / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
A fatal wildlife disease has been detected for the first time in wild populations of white-tailed deer in Pennsylvania.
Today the Pennsylvania Game Commission confirmed that three deer killed by hunters during the 2012 rifle deer season in Blair and Bedford counties tested positive for the neurological disorder, chronic wasting disease. In October 2012, a farm-raised penned deer in Adams County tested positive in the state's first confirmed case of chronic wasting disease. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has said there is no evidence chronic wasting disease can be transmitted to humans or household pets. The state has not issued consumption advisories for hunter-shot venison.

Many thanks to members for getting the club in shape and filling the feeder

I want to thank Steve Strouse, Tom Noble and Carl Huss for coming out last Sunday and giving the club a good cleaning in preparation for our first rifle match of the 2013 season.  The first match is a 100-yard benchrest match that will start at 1 PM this coming Sunday.

I would like to encourage members to come out, fire a match, and help kick the season off.

Also, Shannon McKee and Bob McClure filled the feeder again last week, and Monday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, there was a large flock of turkeys at the feeder.

At  5 o'clock, a group of 6 six deer came out to take advantage of the free meal.  Thanks for getting the corn out to the club.

And hanks to all members who help make this club a success.

Firearms Companies Restricting Sales to Government Agencies in Areas That Restrict Gun Rights

February 22, 2013

By Gregory Gwyn-Williams, Jr.

More than 50 firearm and firearm-related companies (Editor's Note: The number has reached 70) have stated they will no longer sell items to states, counties, cities and municipalities that restrict their citizens' rights to own them.

According to The Police Loophole, 34 companies have joined in publicly stating that governments who seek to restrict 2nd Amendment rights will themselves be restricted from purchasing the items they seek to limit or ban.

Extreme Firepower Inc., located in Inwood WV,  has had a longstanding policy that states:

"The Federal Government and several states have enacted gun control laws that restrict the public from owning and possessing certain types of firearms...If a product that we manufacture is not legal for a private citizen to own in a jurisdiction, we will not sell that product to a law-enforcement agency in that jurisdiction."

York Arms, located in Buxton ME, released a statement following new legislation in New York:

"Based on the recent legislation in New York, we are prohibited from selling rifles and receivers to residents of New York. We have chosen to extend that prohibition to all governmental agencies associated with or located within New York."

Quality Arms, located in Rigby ID, writes on their website, "elected officials have their own agenda to circumnavigate the truth and destroy the constitution of the United States."

The site states: "Quality Arms Idaho will not supply and firearm or product, manufactured by us, or any other company nor will we warranty, repair, alter, or modify and firearm owned by any State, County or Municipality who infringes on the right of its citizens to bear arms under the 2nd Amendment."

Bravo Company USA states:

"The people at Bravo Company USA and BCM support responsible private individuals having access to the same tools of civilian Law Enforcement to affect the same ends...As such Bravo Company's policy is that law enforcement officials and departments will be restricted to the same type of products available to responsible private individuals of that same city or state."

A thought on gun ban laws

A person steals guns, (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

Shoots and kills his own mother (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

Transports these guns loaded (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

Brings guns onto school property (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

Breaks into the school (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

Discharges the weapons within city limits (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

And

Murders 26 people (WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW),

There are PEOPLE in this country who somehow think passing ANOTHER LAW banning guns would protect us from someone like this.

If you haven't noticed, people like this are NOT CONCERNED about breaking laws - they only care about fulfilling their own twisted agenda.

The only people that a gun ban law would impact are the LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, which will only serve to cripple the ability to protect ourselves.
