Excitement builds for Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday!

We are a few days away from our first Kids Fishing Derby from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 28.

The message channel on our local cable and Gant Daily have been advertising it for about a month now. My wife and I are expecting around 100 kids to show up.

The membership has been working very hard to get ready for this event by cutting brush, mowing, weed eating and supplying items for the derby.

So far we have had 10 fishing rods, 2 sleeping bags and a youth fishing vest donated by club members for prizes. Tom Noble has ordered 30 dozen night crawlers for the event and many members, and wives, have committed to come and help.

There are quite a few areas opened up around the pond for easy access to the better fishing areas. Because of the size and numbers of largemouth bass in the pond, we are going to allow a few to be taken out to give the smaller fish a chance to grow.

I want to thank the membership for the help they have given to the club for the kids and I know it will be a great time for all.
