2019 Groundhog Matches

Factory Varmint Class
  • factory (not custom shop), heavy barreled varmint/target rifles
  • all AR/MSR rifles (forend modification allowed) included in this class
  • factory marked barreled actions with original chamber
  • FUNCTIONAL SAFETY REQUIRED
  • stock, trigger and muzzle device replacement allowed
  • no benchrest or flat bottomed forend stocks; no forend benchrest adapters
  • any factory caliber under .35, any ammunition, any scope power


Unlimited Class
  • any caliber under .35, any scope power, maximum forend width 3.1 inches


Course of Fire
  • 20 rounds, combined score of four targets, one each at 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards
  • full groundhog target at 200, 300 and 400 yards, peeking groundhog at 100 yards
  • match fee, $15.00 for four targets, groundhog silhouette targets with sighter targets
  • five record shots on each target, 20 record shots total, unlimited sighters
  • 7 minute time limit for each target
  • LOWEST five holes on targets with excessive hits scored
  • THE SAME RIFLE MUST BE USED FOR ALL 4 TARGETS
  • ENTRY ON MULTIPLE RELAYS IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY
  • firing from the bench, with separate front and rear rests
  • spotting scopes and coaching allowed
  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd places paid; in case of ties awards will be split

Deer Rifle Class
  • tapered sporter barrels of 0.67 inch maximum muzzle (not thread) diameter
  • Functional Safety Required, muzzle brakes allowed
  • stock suitable for hunting use (no benchrest stocks or adapters)
  • stock bedding or replacement allowed, trigger adjustment or replacement allowed
  • any centerfire caliber, hunting bullets only, no match or hollow-point bullets

November 2018 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The October minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Breck Neeper and a second by Dave McNeel. George McCoy presented the treasurer’s report and the report was passed on a Joel Dutra motion and a second by Steve Wagner.
Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported he had 21 unlimited shooters and 1 deer rifle in the Groundhog Match and 13 unlimted shooters and 1 factory for the deer hunter match. The Ground Hog Match Annual Award was presented to Bob Horton with a 3 match aggregate of 571 with 6 x’s.

Old Business
Alan Lucas and Don Farbo have cut firewood. If the temperature returns to 60 degrees the insulation can be sprayed in the back shooting room. If it does not warm up enough, we can prepay this year for next years insulation. Carl Huss was contacted and the dozer work has been completed from the recent logging. The road is blocked, so please stay off of the road until the road dries up.  The water sample has been completed, the results will be emailed to Tom Hamilton. Members are reminded to not make any expenditures without prior approval of the club members, minor expenditures for gasoline etc.. are okay. Steve Strouse has not delivered the donated arc light to the club. Tom Lanager has been contacted by telephone and at his office concerning the possible purchase of land adjoining the club, with no response.

New Business
Arrangements will be made to get the fuel oil tank filled.  Wee need a new thimble for the wood furnace in the back room. On a Tom Hamilton motion and a Ken Straub second $100.00 was approved for the purchase. Bud Ellis will purchase the thimble. Bryan Brubaker will turn the water off. After a discussion it was decided to leave the trap machine and cords in the trap house for the winter. Ken Straub will paint the new door in the back room, the paint supplies were previously approved.

Raffle tickets are available from George McCoy. Members are reminded taht this is our biggest  fund raiser for the year.

Anderson Creek window decals are available in orange, green or white and are $5.00 each. They are available at anytime from Randy Mitchell.

October 2018 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The September minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Ken Straub and a second by Steve Strouse. George McCoy presented the treasurer’s report and the report was passed on a Marty Hrin motion and a second by Tom Noble..
Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported he had 6 unlimited shooters and 1 deer rifle in the Groundhog Match. Steve Strouse has set the schedule for the winter matches which will be held from January through March, with warmups at 10:00 and the match starting at 11:00.
Old Business
The new lights in the shooting room have been installed by Jeff Kriner and Scott Brubaker.  Don Farbo replaced the porch light. Andy Shaffer reported that the insulation estimate was $1,800.00 and will require the room be at least 60 degrees. It was decided that we should wait until spring and the warmer weather for the installation. It was also discussed that the door and window need replaced prior to the insulation being installed.
New Business
Dave McNeel made a motion to buy a new door and window for the shooting room and the motion passed on an Andy Shaffer second. Carl Huss was contacted and reported that the cutting of the wood is done but the dozer work has been stalled due to the wet weather. Ken Straub reported the painting is done . Andy Shaffer reported that the rototiller has been delivered and serviced.  Andy Chimenti volunteered to get a water sample for testing. Steve Strouse said he will donate an arc light to the club. There will be a work party for cutting wood on 10/28/18. Alan Lucas volunteered to dispose of the florescent light fixtures. George McCoy reported that he has 2 outstanding 50$ checks from last years raffle, and several members volunteered to assist in contacting the recipients. Randy Mitchell suggested we contact Thomas Lanager about a possible purchase of the property fronting the club.  After a discussion it was agreed that we should attempt to contact Mr. Lanager about a purchase.

The Anderson Creek Sportsmen's Club held its final groundhog match of the year. There were 21 shooters in attendance.

September 2018 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The August minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Tom Noble and a second by Alan Lucas . George McCoy presented the treasurer’s report and the report was passed on an Breck Neeper motion and a second by Steve Wagner.
Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported he had 28 shooters in the Groundhog Match, and 14 shooters for the deer hunter match. Jeff Kriner had 11 shooters for the 400 yard match.

Old Business
There has been no contact concerning the Hunter Trapper Education course. Andy Shaffer and Steve Wagner were thanked for the delivery and spreading of the gravel. The new LED lights are not high output and will be returned for the correct bulbs.

New Business
Andy Shaffer got a quote on foam insulation for the back shooting room. The close cell foam will be  $2.50 per square foot  for approximately 650 sq feet. Walt made a motion to have him come to the club and measure the room for a formal quotation. Andy will make the arrangements and have a quotation for the next meeting. Andy Shaffer reported he has found a 6 foot rototiller at Tractor Supply for $1,799.00. After a discussion, Greg Yutzey made a motion to buy the rototiller from Tractor Supply, and the motion passed on an Andy Shaffer second.  Alan Lucas will finish the siding on the clubhouse. Additional items needing addressed for points are, cleaning the shed and changing the oil and filter in the tractor. The raffle tickets have been printed and are available from George McCoy. The members only tickets are also available from George. Contact Tom Noble to join the Chukar Hunt on September 30th. The price is $160 for a 4 man hunt of 10 birds and steak. Ken Straub requested permission to buy more paint to finish the trim and it was determined that the paint was already authorized. Joel Dutra suggested we inspect the results of the recent logging and report any issues to Brownlee Lumber before it is too late to address any of these issues. Tom Hamilton will contact Carl Huss to make sure that the operation has been completed.

Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The July minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Roy Mahlon and a second by Mike Solida . George McCoy presented the treasurer’s report and the report was passed on an Allen Lucas motion and a Breck Neeper second
Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported he had 23 shooters in the Groundhog Match, and 13 shooters for the deer hunter match.

Old Business
Brownlee Lumber Company has started logging and has paid one half of the bid amount, with the second amount to be paid in January of 2109. Jeremy Smith has not received any bids or interest in the selling of the old thrower. The game commission will be contacted to set up the Hunter Trapper Education course at Anderson Creek. Jeremy Smith is a certified instructor and tom Hamilton and his 2 son in laws plan to become certified. The gravel we approved from the July meeting has been delivered and Andy Shaffer will spread the gravel under the pavilion. The new LED lights and bulbs are here and arrangements are being made to install them.

New Business
Tom Hamilton reported the grill has been repaired and the propane tank has been filled. The raffle tickets have been printed and will be distributed now. The drawing will be held at the 1/12/19 meeting.
The prizes are 1st prize Bergara B14 Ridge in 6.5 Creedmoor, 2nd Benelli Nova Field 12 gauge, 3rd S7W M&P Bodyguard 380 ACP, 4th  $100.00 cash.  The members drawing tickets will be available at the September meeting. The Member prize is a Bergara B14 HMR in 308. The member drawing will be 12/15/18.  Tom Noble reported that the next Trap Shoot and Steak Feed will be held August 26th.  Contact Tom Noble to join the Trap Shoot Steak Feed.  The Chukar Hunt will be September 30th .  A discussion was held concerning projects to be completed at the club, which include insulate the shooting room, finish the siding on the club house, remodel the bathroom, buy a backhoe etc...

July 2018 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The June minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Charles Bungo and a second by Bob McClure. Due to the absence of George McCoy, Tom Hamilton gave an abbreviated treasurer report and the report was passed on an Allen Lucas motion and a Dave McNeel second
Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported he had 17 shooters in the Groundhog Match., and 16 shooters for the deer hunter match.

Old Business
Tom Noble reported that he had 16 shooters for the Trap Shoot and Steak Feed which was held  June 24th, The next Trap Shoot and Steak Feed will be held July 29th Contact Tom Noble to join. The new thrower worked very well. Since the thrower was purchased under the budgeted amount Jeremy Smith made a motion to research purchasing voice activation, the motion passed  on a Tom Noble second. On an original motion by James Johnston to purchase LED lights for the shooting room, Jeremy Smith volunteered to donate 3 – 4 foot light fixtures and Tom Hamilton will purchase the LED bulbs for the fixtures. The amended motion by Steve Wagner passed on a Greg Yutzey second. It was agreed thatr we get rid of the old lawn mower and corn planter. Jeremy Smith will explore selling the old bird thrower. Walt Kuzemchock made a motion to purchase 5 tons of gravel for $125.00 for under the pavilion and the motion passed on a Steve Wagner second.

New Business
Ben Sikora, HB Hardwood, Keystone Hardwood, Rob Holland and Brownlee Lumber were invited to grade and bid on harvesting trees for the club grounds. After a discussion by the club members Charles Bungo made a motion to accept the bid from Brownlee Lumber Company, the motion passed on a Jeremy Smith second. Tom Noble and Jeremy Smith reported that the Game Commission is interested in visiting the club to discuss the use of the club for a Hunter Trapper Education course. After a discussion the members agreed to the visit. After a discussion the 2018 Raffle and member drawing will be organized for a start in September..

2018 Fishing Derby


The Anderson Creek Sportsmen's Club held its annual kids fishing derby.  There were 42 young anglers registered.  The overall winner was Blake Pisarcik, of Brookville, with a 19" largemouth bass. The club would like to thank all the kids and families that attended.

There will be a work party at 5:00 on Friday June 8th  in preparation for the fishing derby.  Members are asked to bring canopies for use on Saturday in anticipation of rain.

Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The April minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and a second by Jeff Kriner. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Breck Neeper and a second by Ken Straub.

Match Report
Jeff Kriner reported he had 9 shooters in the Groundhog Match. Walt Kuzemchock reported that the boards on the 400 yard frames have been replaced and the backers were replaced.  Members are reminded that they are not to shoot pistols on the 100-200-300-400 yard ranges.

Old Business
The fishing derby is scheduled for June 9th and we still need fishing rods for the giveaway. There will be a work party at 5:00 on Friday June 8th  in preparation for the fishing derby. Ed Spencer will supply the chips and drinks. Tom Hamilton will supply the hot dogs buns and condiments.

New Business
Jeff Kriner made a motion to provide $300 for the supplies for the fishing derby and the motion passed on an Andy Shaffer second. James Johnston agreed to get the Porta Potty serviced. The drawing for the Lake Raystown fishing trip raffle fund raiser was held and Greg Zatsick of Falls Creek was the winner. Randy Mitchell brought the Anderson Creek window decals and they are available in orange, green or white and are $5.00 each. They are available at anytime from Randy Mitchell. A discussion was held concerning the purchase of a new trap thrower. A MEC300E is available for $3,977.15. Marty made a motion that we allow $4000.00 for the purchase of the MEC thrower and the motion passed on a James Johnston second.  Carl Huss reviewed the property and said we can do a select cut and offered a $5,000.00 contract from Brownlee Lumber. After a discussion it was decided that we should solicit additional quotations. Two new members, Scott Gulish and Andy Gibson were present to fill our 2 openings for membership. Jeff Kriner mada a motion to accept both as members and the motion passed on a Dave McNeel second.

Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The March minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joel Dutra and a second by Steve Strouse. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Breck Neeper and a second by Wayne Hicks.

Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported that the matches will start in May. The 400 yard frames will need some repairs.

Old Business
The fishing derby is scheduled for June 9th and we still need fishing rods for the giveaway. We now have 8 bikes for the kid’s drawing. Tom Noble will make arrangements to get the worms for bait. The drawing for the Lake Raystown fishing trip raffle fund raiser for a new trap machine organized by Jeremy Smith will be held at the May meeting. The tickets are available now and are 10$ a ticket. There has been no additional news on pricing or availability of a new trap machine. The Philipsburg Gun Club is fighting their closure and it may drag on for quite some time.  Randy Mitchell reported the decals should be available for the May meeting. We ordered 20 white, 20 orange and 10 green and they will cost $5.00 each.

New Business
Andy Shaffer made a motion to approve the purchase of lumber for the 400 yard range, and the motion passed on a Don Farbo second. James Johnston volunteered to arrange for the porta potty to be cleaned out. Andy’s Sawmill contacted the club and is interested in select cutting the trees on the club property. The members voted to not have the property select cut. Carl Huss will be contacted to get his advice on the value and selection of trees that can be harvested. We have 2 openings on the roster due to Mike Frisco and Gary Stewart choosing not to remain as members.

March 2018 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The November minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Steve Strouse and a second by Joe Mitchell. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Jeff Kriner and a second by Dave McNeel.

Match Report
Steve Strouse reported that the winter matches on  March 12th had 12 shooters.

Club Dues of $50.00 are due now.

Old Business
The fishing derby is scheduled for June 9th and we still need fishing rods for the giveaway. Tom and Karen Hamilton will be supplying the hot dogs and Ed Spencer will be supplying the drinks. Jeremy Smith has organized the Lake Raystown fishing trip raffle fund raiser for a new trap machine. Tickets are available and are 10$ a ticket. Charles Bungo suggested we watch for a thrower from the Philipsburg Trap Club to become available. They are top of the line voice activated throwers. We received a thank you card from the Clearfield Library for our book donation in Dudley Shimmel’s name.
New Business

Do not forget to turn your clocks back ahead an hour tonight. Tom Hamilton has had a schedule change at work and some of the meetings he may not be able to attend. The fuel was checked and we have plenty left for the year. Stay off of the grass until the yard dries out to keep form curtting up the lawn. When you done and you are leaving the club make sure the lights are turned off.  Tom Hamilton made a motion to pay the NRA dues for 5 years at $175.00 and Mike Solida seconded the motion and the motion passed. If you want to attend the 2nd amendment rally in Harrisburg in May, contact Grice’s gun shop for a bus reservation. A discussion was held concerning the effect on open carry that Tom Wolfe’s declaration of an opioid abuse state of emergency.
Randy Mitchell made a motion that we buy 50 5” window stickers for 5$ each and the motion passed on a James Johnston second. 
Alan Lucas won the door prize.
Joel Dutra made a motion to adjourn and Don Farbo seconded the motion.

February 2018 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The November minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Walt Kuzemchock and a second by Joe Mitchell. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Andy Shaffer and a second by Bud Thomas.

Match Report
Steve Strouse reported that the winter matches on  February 3rd had 19 shooters.

Old Business
The Clearfield Library suggested we buy a book aimed toward the Junior Hunters. We donated $50.00 toward that book in memoriam for Dudley Shimmel and they were very grateful. Volunteers for the Grice Sale were Tom Hamilton, Nick Bakaysa, Wayne Hicks, Bud Thomas, Roger Thomas and Sierra Grice. We had 12 people sign up to receive shooting schedules by email at the sale.

New Business

Jeremy Smith has organized the fishing trip raffle fund raiser for Lake Raystown . Tickets are available and are 10$ a ticket. This is an 8 hour charter for 4 people, at a time selected by the winner. The annaul fishing derby will be held on 6/9/18. Tom Hamilton has purchased 2 bicycles with the money from the 50/50 raffle held at the Grice’s Sale. Bob McClure commented on how quickly the winners of our annual raffle were printed in the newspaper.

Scott Brubaker won the door prize.

December 2017 Meeting Minutes


Meeting was called to order by Tom Hamilton at 7:30 p.m.

The November minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Joe Mitchell and a second by Anthony Moore. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Breck Neeper and a second by Steve Strouse.

Match Report
Walt Kuzemchock reported that the deer rifle matches ended in October and attendance was down for the year. Steve Strouse reported that the winter matches will be held 12/30, 1/6, 2/3, and 3/3 . The matches will start at 10am and have will use specific targets for 22, 6 and 30 caliber.

Old Business
Jeff Kriner organized the liming of the fields, and 3 fields were limed. There are now 30 tickets available for the January raffle. Randy Mitchell has reorganized the food committee list. If you have any issues with your month please contact him at rmitch@penn.com. Marty Hrin will have information about the new thrower prices at the January meeting. 
New Business
Jeremy Smith is organizing the fishing trip raffle fund raiser for the new thrower and will have more information when the plans are finalized. The Grice Sale will be held on 1/27/18, and we need volunteers to man the table and to sell tickets for our fund raiser.
Randy Mitchell will renew the Small Games of Chance License which expires in December. Ed “Sugar Bear” Spencer won the members drawing Kimber Hunter Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor with ticket number 28.

Tom Noble won the door prize.
