Tom Hamilton Shares His Thoughts on Presenting David Kuzemchock Award to Life Skills Class

At the last moment, our Club President, Jeremy Smith had to attend a funeral in Scranton and I had to write speech for the award. Here it is:

I am here today on behalf of the Anderson Creek Sportsmen’s Club, in Rockton, to honor the memory of one of your classmates.

David Kuzemchock, a member of the Life Skills Class, recently and unexpectedly passed away.

David’s father, Walter, has been a member of our organization for many years. He is a past president, match director and has spearheaded many of our fund raisers. Our club has decided to give an annual award to the Life Skills Class in honor of David. David has been described as, ‘A great kid, a kid who touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with and sometimes a little mischievous.’

He loved having fun and going on field trips. As a representative of the Anderson Creek Sportsmen’s Club, it is a great honor to present the Life Skills Class with this check for $600.00 to take David’s classmates on a field trip, in memory of their friend.

I'll not lie; I had a rough time doing this. I don't mind getting up a speaking in front of a thousand people, but this one hit me hard. I did get through it, and there were a lot of people there with tears in their eyes.

EDITOR'S NOTE - The club owes Tom Hamilton a huge debt of gratitude for spearheading this award and respresenting us so well in making this presentation. It brings tears to our eyes just reading Tom's account. Imagine the emotions his heart-felt words must have evoked among those attending the ceremony.

Club Presents $600 to David Kuzemchock's Life Skills Class

Report by from Tom Hamilton:

On Wednesday, May 20, it was my honor to meet David Kuzemchock's class mates and walk up on stage, at the Clearfield Area High School Awards Day, with three of his class mates to present them with a check for $600.00.

You are all to be commended for digging deep into your pockets to help make this day such a success. The money the club gave is funding a trip to an Altoona Curve game and another to Bland Park. The short time I spent with these young men and women is something I will never forget. The teachers, aides and the members of the Life Skill's class send a big thank-you to the members of our club.

This is the first time any organization has done anything like this for the Life Skill's class. Hopefully others will follow our lead.

Thank you again

Tom

May 9, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by Jeremy Smith at 7:30 p.m. on May 9th, 2009

The April minutes were presented by Randy Mitchell and approved on a motion by Jerry Bloom and a second by Bob McClure. The treasurer’s report was presented by George McCoy and approved on a motion by Jerry Bloom and a second by Bob McClure.

Old Business
Their will be a presentation of the money we have collected to donate to Life Skills of Pa for David Kuzemchock on May 20th at the Clearfield High School.

It was suggested that any jobs that need done at the club be posted on the blackboard in the meeting for members who want to work at the club and can not attend work parties.

The new lawn mower has been purchased, James Johnston and Tom Noble have already mowed with it and reported that it does a great job.

Randy Mitchell delivered the water pump and Brian Brubaker will install it.

Randy Mitchell is currently reviewing and retyping the by-laws and will present a revised version to the board members when they are assembled.

James Johnston reported that the shooters at the recent rimfire match liked the new range and the entire setup worked well. Special thanks go to Dave McNeel and James Johnston for the work in preparing the range for the shoot. Thirty targets were scored with Harp McNeel as the only club member placing, with a 2nd in the squirrel match.

New Business
Jeremy Smith suggested that the club sponsor a raffle for a fishing trip to Raystown Lake for Striper Bass. The club would sell 150 $10.00 tickets for the trip for 4 people for an 8 hour day with all equipment and supplies (except food and drink) included. Walt Kuzemchock made a motion to approve the motion and it passed on a George McCoy second. Jeremy will make the arrangements for the trip, the date and for the tickets.

Brian Allen has volunteered to run the IBS matches, and 2 non-members have also volunteered to help. Tom Hamilton made a motion to approve and George McCoy seconded the motion and the motion passed. All members are asked to help with the running of the matches, posting and retrieving targets and with food.

Jeremy Smith plans to attend the NRA Club University in Albany New York on Saturday July 18th. The university will cover many topics beneficial to club operation.

Walt Kuzemchock showed the members a new brass bucket for the 400 yard range for any brass in order to keep it off of the concrete pad at the range, and to avoid any accidents.

Tom Noble reminded the members that there will be a Steak Feed/Trap Shoot on June 7th at 10:00 at a cost of $25.00 per shooter. Please contact Tom by June 1st in order for him to have time to order steaks.

Jim Peters reported he has been working on the hand gun range and hopes to have it operational by next year.

Two new members were installed at the meeting - Steve Beretsel and Dave Coudriet.

Tom Hamilton made a motion to adjourn with a James Johnston second.

- Respectfully submitted by Randy Mitchell, Secretary.

David Kuzemchock Awards Day Presentiation Coming Up May 20

Awards day at David K's school is scheduled May 20, with the time is to be determined.

With the club's $250 contribution and member donations, we are at about $500 mark with one meeting to go. Our May 9th meeting is the final opportunity members will have to donate before the award is presented.

David's teacher told us the class already has a trip planned to see the Altoona Curve baseball team play and a visit to DelGrosso's Amusement Park (formerly Bland's Park). Our donation and contributions will cover most of the expense.

So, please, dig deeply if you can, and let's put this donation way over the top in honor and memory of David Kuzemchock!
